Product Description

Yong De Wild Purple "Ye Sheng" Black Tea * Spring 2016

This is a lightly processed black tea that was hand-crafted using a wild tree purple leaf varietal from Yong De county in Lincang prefecture. Ye Sheng varietal aka "Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze var. assamica (J. Masters) Kitam." is a primeval varietal that pre-dates Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica and is a naturally occuring non hybridized varietal. It's potency in cha qi arises from it's unadulterated nature. It is naturally bug repellent, grows wild in the forests of Yunnan at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters.

Our Yong De Wild Tree Purple tea grows near Wu Jia Zhai village in Yongde county of Lincang prefecture at an altitude of 1800 meters. This tea like other "ye sheng" varietals grow without interference. The "ye sheng" varietal suitable for making this lovely black tea is only harvested once a year (in the spring).

The tea is lightly wilted to preserve it's taste and aroma, but just enough to completely cut out the "ye sheng" bitterness, transforming it into a cognac like spicy sweetness instead!  The leaves are thick and stout and can be infused 10 times or more (gong fu style)!

Late March 2016 harvest!
